Family Sponsorship
Canada has a long tradition of supporting family reunification. Canada wants to see new immigrants, as well as long-standing Canadians, be reunited with family members from abroad through sponsorship.
Who you can sponsor:
-
Spouse, common-law partner, or conjugal partner
-
Dependent children
-
Adopted children
-
Parents and Grandparents
-
Sibling, nephew, niece, or grandchild under the age of 18 who is unmarried and whose parents are deceased
In order to sponsor a family member, there are several requirements and obligations - such as demonstrating financial means to support them and agreeing to financially supporting this individual for a significant amount of time.
This process can be quite lengthy along with several other requirements.
